If you are looking for an ecommerce marketing agency in Australia, you probably want someone to take the marketing off your plate and make the numbers move. This page explains what Sales Savvy Online (SSO) does, the work we deliver, who it fits and how working with us begins.
We are based in Sydney and work with Australian businesses that sell physical products online. Some are selling their first few units. Some have traded for years and stopped growing. The first question is the same for both: can the business afford the customers it is trying to buy?
What an ecommerce marketing agency should help you do
Marketing help is only useful if it changes the business, not just the ad account. Before you hire anyone, it helps to be clear about what the work should achieve.
-
Tell you what the business has to earn.
Your costs covered, you paid properly, and a surplus you have named. Without that target, nobody can say whether a campaign is working.
-
Find where the money is lost.
The offer, the margins, the website, the ads or repeat purchase. Each has a different fix, and fixing one in isolation can make another worse.
-
Put the work in order.
Which fix earns the first dollar, what depends on what, and what each step is worth in your dollars.
-
Run the work without making you the go-between.
Someone has to brief the ads, the email and the site changes so they all point at the same commercial goal.
-
Report against business numbers.
Orders, gross profit and what a customer costs to buy, not only what an advertising platform reports.
Many providers start at the ad account, because that is what they sell. That is a sensible place to start when the ads are the problem. Two in three founders who ran our diagnostic did not have a marketing problem, so we start one step earlier, with the business itself.
If you are hiring for the first time, our guide to hiring your first ecommerce marketing agency compares operating models and the questions to ask. What an ecommerce marketing agency costs explains how fees, media and scope fit together, including our own terms.
The work SSO delivers
We deliver the work ourselves, with senior direction and the specialists the plan needs. What each client gets depends on what the investigation finds, so not every business needs every piece below.
-
Strategy and unit economics.
What a customer is worth after every real cost, what one costs to buy, and what the business needs to cover itself and pay you. See how we approach ecommerce marketing strategy.
-
Meta ads.
Facebook and Instagram campaigns and the creative that runs in them, judged against your break-even rather than a platform headline. More on our Meta ads work.
-
Google Ads.
Campaign management and creative for people already searching for what you sell. More on Google Ads for ecommerce.
-
Email and retention.
Automated flows and regular campaigns that bring buyers back. We have built automated journeys in Klaviyo, Yotpo and Mailchimp. More on ecommerce email marketing.
-
Website conversion.
Speed, friction, trust and checkout on the site you already pay to send traffic to. Where the plan needs a rebuild, it is included and costed in the plan rather than sold separately. More on conversion optimisation.
-
Reporting against business numbers.
Blended return on media, cost per customer and gross profit after media, so you can see whether the work pays for itself.
Two things shape how this work runs. First, it follows an order: the business, then the site, then the ads. If one does not hold, we stop there and tell you. Second, you keep the business decisions. We brief and manage our own specialists. You approve, we run it.
Better ads for a business that cannot afford its customers just make the problem more expensive. That is why the ad account is the third thing we look at, not the first.
How the Validation Sprint leads to the next decision
Every engagement starts with a Validation Sprint. It runs for four weeks, costs $4000 + GST paid upfront, and starts from the day we have your access. There is no route into ongoing work that skips it, not for a referral, a bigger budget or a tight deadline.
The Sprint establishes the opportunity. If you have little or no sales data, we go and buy some: test media on a new business is additional, agreed and capped before anything goes live. If you already trade, we audit what is there and run one targeted test instead. Sparse sales data does not rule you out.
At the end you receive the plan in writing, and we sit with you for ninety minutes while you read it. It is yours to use with us, with someone else or on your own. There is no refund if you do not like what we find: you are paying for the finding, not for good news.
Three ways the four weeks can end
-
Go ahead.
We make you an offer to do the work, on one of the two routes below.
-
Not yet.
A fix list, in order. Do it yourself or with anyone, and come back when it is done.
-
Not with us.
No offer. You keep the plan, and we tell you exactly why.
Roughly six in ten completed Sprints are not followed by an offer from us (September 2026 record, not all enquiries and not a promised future rate). A positive finding does not automatically lead to an offer either. Before we propose ongoing work we look separately at whether the opportunity is credible, whether you can fund and support your side of the work, and whether we can deliver it at a cost and capacity that work for us.
If we go ahead: two routes
| Route | When it fits | How it is priced |
|---|---|---|
| Launch | A credible opportunity whose economics need building or repairing: offer, margins, site, campaigns and repeat purchase, in the order the Sprint set. | Twelve months. 30% of agreed eligible product gross profit against a $1,500 plus GST monthly minimum. You pay the greater of the two, never both. |
| Accelerate | An established business whose economics already work and which needs more commercial and execution capacity. | Twelve-month initial agreement, invoiced monthly in advance. Scoped to the work and agreed in writing before it starts. |
Turnover does not decide the route. The Sprint findings and the work the plan needs do.
For selected businesses on Launch, we fund an agreed part of the early delivery work. What we put in, what you pay and how we recover it is written down before you commit. We take no equity, and it does not fund your media, stock or operations.
If you go on together, the full $4000 is credited across invoices 11 and 12 of an initial twelve-month programme, $2,000 each. It does not reduce the first ten invoices and it does not make the Sprint free upfront.
Relevant client evidence and working with SSO
Each story below started with a diagnosis. The numbers come with their dates and qualifiers, because a number without its basis is not evidence.
- 2.61× Apothecary by Justin's return on ads in August 2026, against a 1.20× break-even
- $137 his average order by August 2026, up from $69 in January
- 147 → 303 Holtsee's monthly orders by month three
- 4.9 out of 5 across 211 Google reviews
Apothecary by Justin
A founder-led candle brand that had already tried three agencies. In January 2026 Justin spent $3,204 on ads and made $548 from 8 orders. At a $69 average order, a customer was worth about $55 in gross profit, and buying one cost about $400. No campaign closes that gap, so we fixed the offer first, then the ads.
By August 2026 his average order was $137 and he made $27,469 in revenue on $10,525 of media. It took about seven months and $20,000 of capital all up, with months of falling cash before the first profitable month. Read the full Apothecary by Justin case, or why numbers often dip before they improve.
Cat Evolution
An established pet brand that had plateaued for years and thought it needed to spend more. It was not a spend problem. The work fed an already efficient engine across paid, retention and organic at once. Return on our fee was 2.09× in year one and 20.8× in year five. That is one client over five years, not a forecast for another business.
Holtsee
Premium eyewear with strong margins, ready to grow beyond founder-led sales. We proved the creative, switched on retention and scaled the highest-margin product. By month three, orders had gone from 147 to 303, conversion was up 74%, net profit was up 3.4× and blended return on ad spend sat near 6×, with 80% gross margins held.
What working with us looks like
- You keep the business decisions and ownership. We brief and manage our own people.
- Your proposal shows the work we take on and the decisions, approvals and information we need from you, before you commit.
- You know who is briefing the work, who is building it and who to call when something is wrong.
- Senior direction plus shared specialists: a managed team across accounts, not a dedicated full-time department you carry as headcount.
Four things that need to be true before we can help
- There is a real product and a live checkout, whether it has sold ten units or ten thousand.
- There is ad data, or a budget to go and get some during the Sprint.
- You will hand over the real numbers: cost of goods, shipping, returns and what you pay yourself.
- You want to be told what the numbers say, not sold a plan.
If none of this is quite you yet, or you are not ready to spend $4000 to find out, start with the free Growth Bottleneck diagnostic (opens in a new tab). It takes under 4 minutes, runs on screen and has no call attached. Who we take on sets out where the line sits in more detail.
